Theme in The Kite Fighters

The theme of a novel happens beneath the surface.  It is the lessons that the story teaches us or a conclusion that the reader draws from story events.  Good readers "read between the lines" to understand the story's theme.

In your opinion, what is the theme of The Kite Fighters?  What is the life lesson that we can learn from the novel?
